The Scarlet and Violet 151 Poster Collection

What Makes Scarlet & Violet 151 Different From Other Sets?

Last updated:

Scarlet & Violet 151 is different because of how it is ordered. Every one of the original 151 Kanto Pokémon appears, arranged by National Pokédex number rather than grouped by type — which no standard expansion does. Released in English on 22 September 2023, it is a special expansion rather than a main set.

Its full official name is Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—151, catalogued as SV3.5, and it is the first special expansion of the Scarlet & Violet series.

The ordering is the whole point

In a normal Pokémon expansion, cards are grouped by type — all the Grass cards, then all the Fire cards, and so on. In 151, they run in Pokédex order:

  • 001 Bulbasaur
  • 002 Ivysaur
  • 003 Venusaur ex
  • …
  • 149 Dragonite
  • 150 Mewtwo
  • 151 Mew ex

Cards 152 to 165 are Trainers and Tools. The main set therefore runs 1 to 165, with secrets from 166 to 207. Total English count is 207 cards.

One data point to be careful with: you will see the figure 210 quoted for this set. That is the Japanese count. The English set is 207. Even the reference material contradicts itself on this, so check which language a source is describing.

Why the ordering matters practically: it makes the set a Kanto collection rather than a Pokémon TCG expansion. People who have never collected a set before will complete this one, because a binder running Bulbasaur to Mew in order is legible in a way that a type-sorted set is not.

The rarity structure

Illustration Rares — exactly sixteen

Not 151. Sixteen, occupying numbers 166 to 181:

Card No. Card No.
Bulbasaur 166 Nidoking 174
Ivysaur 167 Psyduck 175
Charmander 168 Poliwhirl 176
Charmeleon 169 Machoke 177
Squirtle 170 Tangela 178
Wartortle 171 Mr. Mime 179
Caterpie 172 Omanyte 180
Pikachu 173 Dragonair 181

The Japanese set has eighteen Art Rares, including a Snorlax and a Mewtwo that never received English printings. If you want those two, Japanese is the only route — see our Japanese range.

Double Rares

Six ex cards in the main set: Venusaur ex 003/165, Charizard ex 006/165, Blastoise ex 009/165, Alakazam ex 065/165, Zapdos ex 145/165 and Mew ex 151/165.

Mew ex landing on 151 is not a coincidence and it is a nice piece of set design.

Ultra Rares

Sixteen full-art etched cards at 182 to 197. Twelve Pokémon ex — Venusaur 182, Charizard 183, Blastoise 184, Arbok 185, Ninetales 186, Wigglytuff 187, Alakazam 188, Golem 189, Kangaskhan 190, Jynx 191, Zapdos 192 and Mew 193 — plus four Supporters: Bill's Transfer 194, Daisy's Help 195, Erika's Invitation 196 and Giovanni's Charisma 197.

Special Illustration Rares — exactly seven

  • Venusaur ex 198/165
  • Charizard ex 199/165
  • Blastoise ex 200/165
  • Alakazam ex 201/165
  • Zapdos ex 202/165
  • Erika's Invitation 203/165
  • Giovanni's Charisma 204/165

Charizard ex 199/165 is the headline card of the set. Our Charizard collectors guide covers where it sits among the wider Charizard run.

Hyper Rares — three

Mew ex 205/165, Switch 206/165 and Basic Psychic Energy 207/165.

There is no Mew ex Special Illustration Rare. This is worth stating plainly because it is a persistent error in listings. Mew ex tops out at the Hyper Rare at 205/165. The metal Mew ex in the Ultra-Premium Collection is that same 205 printing.

What the English set does not have

The Japanese, Korean and Traditional Chinese versions of this set carry Mirror Holofoil parallels with a Poké Ball pattern, and rarely a Master Ball pattern. Their packs contain seven cards with two guaranteed holofoils.

English 151 packs do not have the Poké Ball or Master Ball treatment. That mechanic did not reach English until Prismatic Evolutions in January 2025 — see our Prismatic Evolutions range. If you have seen a Poké Ball pattern 151 card, it is a Japanese, Korean or Traditional Chinese print.

151 Collection—Zapdos ex 6 Oct 2023 4
Mini Tin 6 Oct 2023 —

Two naming corrections. The Alakazam and Zapdos products are Collections, not "ex Boxes". And it is the Ultra-Premium Collection, hyphenated.

There was no Charizard ex collection at launch. The Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection is a separate product from 4 October 2024, which happens to include 151 packs and Cosmos Holo Charmander and Charmeleon cards. It is not a 151 launch product and it is regularly miscategorised as one.

Later 151-adjacent products include the 151 Blooming Waters Premium Collection from 7 February 2025, which contains straight reprints of cards from the set.

The reprint question, answered honestly

151 stayed in production well past launch. That much is clear: 151 booster packs continued to appear in newly released products through to at least early 2025, and there is direct documentary evidence of production waves — the Poster Collection's promo cards shifted from Smooth Cosmos Holofoil to Pixel Cosmos Holofoil in early 2024, following a change at the printing facilities.

The Pokémon Company also published a general statement in March 2025 about reprinting affected products to replenish stock, though that statement names no specific set.

What we cannot verify is any official announcement of a 151-specific reprint, or any figure for how much was printed. We are saying this rather than glossing over it, because it is the exact question we get asked and the honest answer is that the set remained in production across multiple waves without a published announcement attached to it.

What to look for

  1. Charizard ex exists at four rarities in this set — Double Rare 006, Ultra Rare 183, Special Illustration Rare 199, plus the base card. Confirm the number, not the name. Our Charizard range lists them separately.
  2. Do not look for a Mew ex Special Illustration Rare. It does not exist.
  3. Pikachu at 173/165 is the Illustration Rare, and Pikachu cards carry their own collecting following — see our Pikachu collectors guide.
  4. A Poké Ball pattern 151 card is not English. Useful for identifying what you are actually being sold.
  5. Only sixteen of the 151 have Illustration Rares. Set completion in the main run does not require chasing 151 IRs, because there aren't 151 of them.

We stock Scarlet & Violet 151 as singles and sealed, and this set turns over faster than almost anything else we handle — the Pokédex ordering makes it the set people come back to finish. Singles are the practical route for the top tier, and the wider singles range covers the rest. Sealed 151 product, when we have it, sits with our Elite Trainer Boxes. We ship Canada-wide from 410 Third Street in London.

Frequently asked questions

Does Scarlet & Violet 151 contain all 151 original Pokémon?

Yes. Every Pokémon from the original Kanto 151 appears, arranged by National Pokédex number rather than grouped by type. The main set runs 1 to 165, with numbers 152 to 165 being Trainers and Tools, and secret rares running from 166 to 207.

Is there a Mew ex Special Illustration Rare in 151?

No. This is a persistent listing error. Mew ex appears as a Double Rare at 151/165, as an Ultra Rare full art at 193/165, and as a Hyper Rare at 205/165 — which is its top printing. The metal Mew ex in the Ultra-Premium Collection is that same 205 card.

How many Illustration Rares does the set have?

Sixteen, numbered 166 to 181, running from Bulbasaur to Dragonair. The Japanese set has eighteen Art Rares including a Snorlax and a Mewtwo that were never printed in English, which is the source of a lot of confusion when people compare checklists across languages.

Do English 151 packs have Poké Ball or Master Ball cards?

No. That Mirror Holofoil treatment is documented for the Japanese, Korean and Traditional Chinese releases of the set, not the English one. English collectors did not see Poké Ball and Master Ball parallels until Prismatic Evolutions in January 2025.

Was Scarlet & Violet 151 reprinted?

It stayed in production well past launch — packs continued appearing in new products into 2025, and there is documented evidence of production waves, including a change in the Poster Collection promos' foil stock in early 2024. However, no official announcement of a 151-specific reprint exists, so we will not claim one.
